The Gangster Squad

Article by David Green

Me and Ross decided to hit a 10:10 am showing. Which had a poor turn out of 7 people, I blame Les Misérables for this.

The Trailers before the film

Bullet to the head - looks like generic Stallone film
Last stand - looks great, good to see arnie back in a film
Die hard 5
Zero dark thirty
Django unchained - review to follow some point

The synopsis

A war hero turned cop has to put together a team ordered by the police chief to take down a big mobster who is running the city. The mobster has brought half the police force, judge and the mayor so the challenge is to do it with them finding it and and not playing by the police rule book.

The film

The film started with a nice scene to set up the character of the bad guy with what he is capable of.
From beginning to end the film is a eye dazzling piece with great suits to sets and lovely cars.
The camera work in this is fantastic pretty much shot in a comic style over the top, ranging from a great car shoot out chase to a bullet tastic finale gun fight.
There are two epic deaths in this film but I wont say so I dont spoil anything for you. The cast in this is big ranging from great film star to television stars.
Once I found out who the director was Ruben Fleischer I was shocked,  his last film left a bad taste in my mouth (30 minutes or less) however easily redeemed by his great Zombieland.

Over all I would give this a 4 out of 5, great start to the year.

Feel free to leave comments about this film.

Thanks for reading

  1. Good Review! Im glad to know that I'm not the only one who was NOT FEELING 30 min or less. But Gangster Squad looks like a significant leap from his earlier work. I can see the parallels (camera wise) between GS and Zombieland, so I'm glad he found his artistic niche. Really looking forward to seeing this. Thanks for the review! :D
