Dinner at The Thomas Lord

Review

Been eyeing up this place for a couple of months now and finally got around to going to eat there, its a quiet little pub set nearly the middle of nowhere (its by Petersfield).

Went here with my mother and better half, tried to book for 730 as thats generally a good time to eat i find. Sat at a nice table with a good view of the pub bar and interesting restaurant decor all round.

So down to the food as it was a 2 AA awarded restaurant the menu was as expected a 5 by 5 by 5 menu so then you get a better quality of food instead of quantity.
I decided to opted for a crab starter portland crab with brown crab custard, treacle bread and kohlrabi remoulade, which was nice just not enough of the brown crab custard but the treacle bread was great nice moist and not too sweet for the dish. mother had a fried smoked duck egg which looked just fried and not smoked at all the oxtail and black pudding hash looked nice and was said to be too. Gael had the risotto. but no one can remember anything about it.

As for the main courses me and my mother had the guinea fowl dish, which consisted of breast, bread mousse, swede and bacon puree, crispy dumplings, marmite carrot, wild garlic and peanut brittle. the marmite carrot was nice something i've not had before but will be trying for sure the breast was cooked lovely and nice and moist. I wasn't a fan of the dumplings that more to my taste as i'm not a fan of them.

My only gripe with this dish was the bread mousse i spent about 2 minutes trying to find it, it turns out that it was inside the guinea fowl leg which was breaded and infact more leg meat then the mousse. I was taught that every element of the dish has to stand on its on and that one didn't, if it was worded on the menu as a crispy leg then there would be no issue but i only had probably 1 mouthful of mousse and the rest leg which was lovely.
Gael had a lamb burger with goats cheese broccoli pesto and served with coleslaw and truffle and parmesan chips. Before i ordered our mains i did ask if the goats cheese was a creamy type or firm and the waitress didn't know but said they were all local cheeses, so when gaels burger comes out and i see a bit of french Chevre log on it i was quite surprised cause that's not local made. Broccoli pesto was nice as was the burger bun nice and soft, chips were just normal handcut could see a few gratings of truffle but no sign of the parmesan.

Right on to the puddings and the let down of the meal, which is disappointing as 2 out f 3 of us have a sweet tooth.
I ordered a treacle sponge ale ice cream oat and raisin cookie and butterscotch sauce, this was the nicest dessert but with a real simple style of presentation, my mother ordered the coconut and pistachio macaroon with terrine of fruit and candied zest. This was presented nicely and tasted good, mum didn't like it my main problem with this was the fruit was suppose to be a terrine and that normally pressed down in to a mould, however the fruit looked like it was just poached.

So onto the final pudding of warm chocolate mousse, chocolate tuille, aerated chocolate, brownie and salted caramel and buttermilk  ice cream. this dish looked nice lots of chocolate for a fan of chocolate, how ever the one element that let it down was the warm chocolate mousse it tasted sour and not in the way of its a high chocolate content but more the type that the cream was of but the waitress said that wasn't the case and was the chocolate.
The puddings really did put a downer on the meal.

I would give this place a 3 out of 5 due to the puddings and my issue with the main course, i will not be hurrying back any time soon but the pub was lovely and loved the fact they grow some of their own veg and fruit and herbs in the garden.

Godzilla 2014 review

Monster film!

Plot

The film focuses on a family and the events leading from a 1999 reactor accident or so we are lead to believe. 14 years into the future and we get to find out what actually caused the reactor accident, we experience the birth of Muto and what follows is its destruction on it hunt for hunger and to mate. However nature has a balance and its answer to this is Godzilla, it seems that godzilla is already known by a human organization called Monarch who has been researching and looking for him. The family is split up and we follow mainly the father who is a explosion expert in the army and he seems to be a magnet for these beasts always at the heart of action. Fast forward couple of hours and the army wants to kill them in order to save the lives of a few million lives.
There is more to it but i don't wanna spoil to much as its such a great film.

My thoughts

So where to start, since the trailer was aired i have been looking forward to this film and what took me by surprise was the fact that this was a versus film monster vs monster and a nice back to the original style of Godzilla films where he is a savior and protector of nature. Unlike the very unpopular 1998 style of film where in fact its him/her as a destroyer of mankind.

I've seen a few people mention the fact that you don't see that much of Godzilla in the movie but the way its shot with Godzilla fighting in the background whilst we focus on Brody was good. my only concern would be the fact that the fights were short or always cut away after a min or so. If you want a monster fight watch Pacific Rim!

The design of godzilla was amazing his detail was the shit. So big and chunky looking just like the old version of him and not the lizard looking on of 98 which was practically a Jurassic park rip off.

There is some amazing camera shoot in this film, one where paratroopers are descending on San Francisco and another where its just Brody and Godzilla on the screen making eye contact.
I must admit i'm a sucker dystopian settings well in the first 15 minutes you get a fantastic shoot of a building covered in growth, reminded me of the video game Enslaved.

The film was great not bored at all and my other half was cheering for Godzilla in the fights and even was cheering in her seat. I'm very excited to see the next film which was recently rumoured as it took so much money other the weekend 30 million.

Considering this is the 2nd film that the director has directed then its awesome i just hope he doesn't get type cast because his first director role was also a monster film.

score
Out of 5 star last night i would have gave it 5 but now id probably give it 4.5 stars just because the fights were short and not enough on screen fighting.
Must see in cinema though!

Escape Plan

Escape Plan

Due out today on what ever format you chose to own and use.

This film is about an escape artist who is hired to professionally break out of prisons and show where the flaws are but no guards or wardens know he is in there. But his recent job is not as its suppose to be, he is set up and enters a prison that he pratically designed as inescapeable.

Without going any into spoiler territory, its a clever little film and not your average Stallone film.
This is a film i had been looking forward to see as it has both Stallone and Arnie in and boy did it pay off the chemistry was great the humour from arnie is probably some of his best in recent year.

If they were to build this time of prison it would be great the idea of keeping people in clear cells is fantastic watching their every moves so you know what they are always up to. In the film the prison itself is a character because its such a bad ass structural building.

Stallone and arnie are both in their 60s now and they look great and put on a great show, some of the other actors i didn't expect to see in this was Vinnie Jones and Sam Neill which are always a pleasant surprise to me, Jim Caviezel plays a great antagonist in this film and could possibly steal the film..... naaaaaaa it was arnie who did that.

I for one want to see more Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone do a few more together before they retire.

I highly recommend this film

Tele Ramblings

Tele talk

Black Sails

By now i'm sure you have all played Assassin's creed IV: black flag and if you haven't you should. Here is a tv show that is pretty much the game not with assassins but with pirates in the Caribbean area within the first episode we appear in Nassau and was pretty happy with how the game portrayed the town as it the same to be fair. Obviously the story of the has nothing to do with Assassin's plot line but to do Treasure Island, its a prequel before the events of the film.Should probably mention that a few episodes are produced by Michael bay and Jonathan Brytus of Game of Thrones fame

If like me you into your violence, plunder and sexual content then i recommend this show to you, that in mind i have only seen the first episode but that was enough to get my claws into it, and it fills the pirate void which Assassin's Creed made.

Helix

Set in Arctic a team from the CDC (Center for Disease Control) have to investigate a disease out break in a high tech research lab. However not everything is as it seems and what will the investigators uncover.

This seems to be promising, it has the thrill and suspense of a good tele show, with plenty of character to support and uncover their  back stories. Not every thing is as it seems what are they up to at this research lab. I'm hoping this is a good series hoping this thing is not human to make it more interesting but the likely hood is probably not.

With Sons Of Anarchy, Boardwalk Empire and Californication all set to end this year im open to suggestions as what i should be watching, im currently catching up on Castle and Justified which is Fucking great!

riddick

riddick

synopsis

Left for dead on a sun-scorched planet, Riddick finds himself up against an alien race of predators. Activating an emergency beacon alerts two ships: one carrying a new breed of mercenary, the other captained by a man from Riddick's past.

Where to begin this film is a bore!
Starting off with a little summary of what happened from the end of the last film till why he has yet again been marooned on a planet alone. Except he finds a dog mans best friend i don't think that the character of Riddick needs a pet as he is suppose to be a lone man. So he has got rusty and has to go back to basics training yawn who cares, then a dangers coming and needs to get off the planet so it has shades of the first film which people enjoyed (i did too) but tries mixing it up alittle by Ridick not working with these people unlike the 1st but taking them out. They eventually get along and get off the planet with a few hiccups.

This was one of those films where it didn't have my attention and done other things too predictable and seen it done before by the previous films.

Dont watch.

banshee

Banshee

Yes its back for its second season, feels like forever since the last season, for me its come back at the right time as Sons Of Anarchy and Boardwalk Empire has finished for their current seasons. So this fills my void of Violence strong language and nudity.
The first episode kicks off straight away from where it left off pretty much with the repercussions of the carnage and showdown. Yet it doesn't really tell us what to expect from this season but if you loved the first season then you know its gonna be full of twist and turns.

Heres the trailer for first season

carrie remake 2013

Carrie

Synopsis

A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White, a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

Okay i am late to the table with this as its been out a while but still wanted to watch it.

Having seen the original a few years back thought i would give this a punt, the original was ok for a piece in its time however it doesn't hold up to much today. You would think could be better, however its just updated and has the same feel but modern the only touch i did like which was different was at the end instead of her reaching through the grave she reaches through sue's stomach. Nice

The casting was pretty good with Julianne Moore playing the mother and Chloe Grace Moretz as the daughter carrie, all other castings for bitchie girls and jocks are nobodies to be fair but played there parts well. What was weird was seeing Chloe as a vulnerable character as opposed to her Hit-girl character who is so badass and doesn't have soft side, hopefully this has opened her up  more roles in films in future.

So overall the remake was good but the film just ain't that great.

Book review: The Prince Of Thorns & King Of Thorns

Little book review

Recently i picked up these books from Asda (other supermarkets are available). The covers along intrigued me nice art work with is risen in certain areas to make it stand out.

Prince of Thorns

Synopsis

Before the thorns taught me their sharp lessons and bled weakness from me I had but one brother, and I loved him well. But those days are gone and what is left of them lies in my mother's tomb. Now I have many brothers, quick with knife and sword, and as evil as you please. We ride this broken empire and loot its corpse. They say these are violent times, the end of days when the dead roam and monsters haunt the night. All that's true enough, but there's something worse out there, in the dark. Much worse.

From being a privileged royal child, raised by a loving mother, Jorg Ancrath has become the Prince of Thorns, a charming, immoral boy leading a grim band of outlaws in a series of raids and atrocities. The world is in chaos: violence is rife, nightmares everywhere. Jorg has the ability to master the living and the dead, but there is still one thing that puts a chill in him. Returning to his father's castle Jorg must confront horrors from his childhood and carve himself a future with all hands turned against him.

My thoughtsIts not a great paced book very slow to get into but at least the character was intriguing enough to keep me interested, it did lack in details some times to get to another part of the story or finish the chapter. but considering it was the author's first novel then i was impressed and happy to see what else can produce in years to come.

If your into fantasy give it a go see if its for you.

King of thorns

Synopsis

To reach greatness you must step on bodies, and many brothers lie trodden in my wake. I’ve walked from pawn to player and I’ll win this game of ours, though the cost of it may drown the world in blood…

The land burns with the fires of a hundred battles as lords and petty kings fight for the Broken Empire. The long road to avenge the slaughter of his mother and brother has shown Prince Honorous Jorg Ancrath the hidden hands behind this endless war. He saw the game and vowed to sweep the board. First though he must gather his own pieces, learn the rules of play, and discover how to break them.

A six nation army, twenty thousand strong, marches toward Jorg's gates, led by a champion beloved of the people. Every decent man prays this shining hero will unite the empire and heal its wounds. Every omen says he will. Every good king knows to bend the knee in the face of overwhelming odds, if only to save their people and their lands. But King Jorg is not a good king.
Faced by an enemy many times his strength Jorg knows that he cannot win a fair fight. But playing fair was never part of Jorg’s game plan.

My thoughts

It was a slow slog through out the book, the book is set in to setting a 4 year old event and the wedding day of Jorg which also happens to be siege day.
There was times when my mind would wonder as it didn't have my full attention due to continually jumping to and fro the events, however it picks up in the end and pays off but even the end could had more detail in it and felt it missed a few things out to be explained.

The next book has got really high remarks and reviews which i hope isn't over hyped but i will be reading it as i have to finish off the trilogy and see what happens to Jorg if redemption is possible.

Not the most interesting review i know but hard to get passionate about something stale.

Metallica : through the never

What's in the bag

As a Metallica fan, this has two different reviews it has a gig review of 9/10 and as a film its a 2/10.

So this film is odd cause from the trailer it looks like there is a gig on and a roadie has to go out and get something for the band and whilst he is out he runs into a riot and has a series of events.

The film is about 80% about the concert with the songs tying in to the events that happens to the road and is also symbolic to what the songs are about. The film is about a roadie (Trip) who takes a pill ,and has a bad trip. He has to go and pick up a bag from a lorry which has run out of fuel, he runs into a riot between the police and a rabble, stops someone getting hanged from a man on a horse in a gas mask and gets chased by a posse, he then gets beaten up and has a face off against the horse man.

It seems whilst this is going on the gig and all going to plan but stuff starts going wrong when bad things happen to trip and stuff breaks but yet they continue to play.

Like i said i enjoyed but not from a film view but as a gig. The most irritating part of it is we just don't know what is in the bag and from what i have searched on the net for no one from the band know but the guy who plays Trip, this will drive people nuts.

See it if you are a fan if not then your choice

Dinner at Village Inn

Pub Food

This here is my first food review.

So the fiancée decided that we should go out and celebrate my latest job promotion and that i could choose any pub i want. A little while back i drove past a pub that took my interest called The Village Inn at the Park Gate area.
So that is where we headed first impression were at a high, the décor was modern pub and it was very spacious and relaxed feeling. What impressed Gael was the fact that not only did have books on a book case but they sell them too if you found one you liked.
The pub serves a nice selection of ales which seems to vary weekly which is always nice to try something different. The menu is pretty big which was nice its nothing special just normal pub grub.

So for starters we had a ploughman's sharer platter which consisted of chicken liver and pork parfait, breaded brie wedge, garlic mushrooms, creamy mushroom pie and potato wedges. We generally go for a sharer starter as its kind of intimate and when Gael cant finish i clear up. The only thing that wasn't that god was the pie as it was microwaved (yup heard the ping) it was soggy they could have put it in the oven just to firm it up a bit.

Main courses as there was so much normal food on there we decided to go for a burger each, Gael had the Lamb and oregano burger which looked  little dry from where i was sitting but she seems to enjoy it. I had the ultimate burger which consisted of 2 burgers, montrey jack cheese, bacon, and a fried egg. At first glance it looked impressive the size was huge but the egg was cooked solid if you put a egg in a burger i wants to be runny. The next thing i realised was that the chips were not that fresh as if they were cooked and left on the hotplate for too long, not crispy and warm. We didn't end up finishing the mains as we were going to give pudding a go.

we gave ourselves a 20 minute way for the food to go down and make some way for pudding. i fancied a bit of tiramisu but darn they didn't have any so settled for spottie dick ( take a minute for the laugh) and Gael had the crumble and custard which she wasn't too impressed with for when she has crumble she likes a nice layer of crumble so the custard can sink into it, however what she got was a piss ass layer spread thinly. Mine was okay nothing special.

Overall not too shabby very middle of the road pub probably looking at a 3 out of 5 it was a good thing the company my other half supplies is great and the the pub looked nice.

The Baytown Outlaws

The Grindhouse film

Plot

After her ex-husband Carlos shoots Celeste three times in the gut, it's time to play dirty. In the fight for her godson, Rob, she hires three outlawed and redneck brothers to bring him back to her. But nothing can be that simple in the South. What begins as a small rescue mission rises to a southern battle royal. This odd team must shoot their way through gorgeous female assassins, Native American hunters, Federal agents, and a whole lot of metal coming after them, while protecting Celeste's innocent child.

My thoughts

Typical Grindhouse film with the grubby look lots of blood and violence and lets not forget the half naked ladies that always appear in this type of films.
So in this film the good guys aren't your typical heroes in fact you would be quite surprised about their morals.

The opening scene i knew i would enjoy this film with these characters i never thought you could cheer on rednecks so much. The two groups of mercenaries are great having their own personal touches to their fractions. Hell even the police chief was different to what we normally get.

One of the reasons i got this film was for Billy Bob Thornton and to be honest he is not even  it that much but when he is he plays the arsehole that he plays so well.

The Soundtrack for this film is great throughout the whole film.
Easy casual watch with not many big names i the film but a load of faces you should recognise from television, I'd expect a sequel from this easy.

80's fims & Tango and Cash

Tango and Cash mini review

Plot

Two rival cops from L.A are set up and to solve who set them up have to work together.

My thoughts

So i got sent this from love film on Blu ray and i tell you what considering this is late 80's this film look good and has been converted quite nicely. This film is full of trops however considering the age i'd say that they set the standard or trends to which some films will follow.

This is my first viewing of the film i know probably could have seen this sooner  but never crossed my mind. The comedy and chemistry from the two characters are fantastic and they really do bounce off each other. Now cut to present day and i have recently The Heat (Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy) who are also two dysfunctional cops who cant work together with opposite styles and i will tell you what Tango and Cash is a much better film.

The one thing that i didn't get from the film was how Cash a L.A cop has a James Bond Q branch shit going on. With the Gun boot and the RV van of death.

The music that was going on in the background was typical 80's film stuff and it reminded me especially of Beverly Hill Cop which was a nice touch.

If you haven't seen the film give it  punt its an easy watch just like the that are of films were.

The 80's

We just don't make films like this any more!
These were the films i grew up on well that and the 90's. These film were just easy watches you just sat down and switched off and let everything happen on the screen. No hidden messages or over elaborate plots, an action film was exactly that guns and explosions with the hero getting the girl no twists. No one cared about the graphics or hidden easter eggs hell not even the acting in some cases.
Cause you know Arnie's and Stallone's first few films were as wooden as shit.

Like i stated earlier these films set the trops we see now days hell most films are re made from the plots from films of the 80's. Thats because original ideas in Hollywood is running at a low.

The Wolverine : spoliers!

My review on everyone's favourite Hero

Synopsis

In modern day Japan, Wolverine is out of his depth in an unknown world as he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

My thoughts

This film is the film comic fans wanted first time round with it following Logan on his journey in Japan and following closely to the comics. Its a slow burn to be honest with not being your usual super hero movie with some themes behind the film of death, trust and honor. The film is a soul searching film for its a journey he must take to get this full potential. That said i was bored!

The film starts slow an.d its not very gripping we see him struggling to come to term with his life after the X-Men and him losing Jean Grey even if she wasn't really his in the first place, we see him getting on with the wild life more then people as he has kind of cut himself off from humanity slightly. As he is also a animal we see him connect with  dying bear and goes hunting for the hunters, which leads him to the woman looking for him. She manages to persuade him to go to Japan and meet his old acquaintance who dies and then the film basically becomes a body guard film where he is protecting the man's granddaughter whilst she is being hunted to draw out wolverine.

The film has a few good action scenes especially the train fighting scene which i thought was done very well to use the moves which Logan would definitely use. Its weird to see not many mutants in this film with just two on top of the main character; the viper was great and very well played however what i dint understand was why she was there and her motives for doing the things she did it made no sense. i did like the parasite which she put in wolverine to slow down his regeneration powers which made sense and humanised him.

SO Jean Grey we see a fair bit of her appearing in his hallucinations giving him pillow talk really which is really his guilt for killing her really and by the end of the film he lets go of her.

The overall plot of this film was to rob Logan of his Regeneration powers so that Grandad can Live forever its a Lame motive for a film to be honest always a trope where someone wants to live for ever.
So to get the power this guys tries to assassinate his own granddaughter. Thats pathetic. He builds a big samurai which to be honest could have been built by Tony Stark it looked like a iron man suit in the end.

Big props to Hugh Jackman who looked his best in this film who took diet advice from The Rock to bulk up!

The more i think about it the less i like it so thats the last 2 Marvel films i feel have been crap you need to sort it out losing your grip.

feel free to disagree but thanks for reading

Fast and Furious 6: the car jumping spectacular

My Fast & Furious 6 review

The plot

Hobbs has Dom and Brian reassemble their crew in order to take down a mastermind who commands an organization of mercenary drivers across 12 countries. Payment? Full pardons for them all.

My thoughts

Lets be honest since The Rock has been in these films it has put life back in to a well needed franchise. It seems to me there was not much driving in this film as the others and more fighting and planning attacks on the enemy.
we begin with where everyone is and what they are up to, and out all all of those The Rock has the best entrance. The first race/ driving sequence is fantastic i can not fault it was very exciting. The hand to hand fight sequences are fantastic and invigorating to watch the and everyone gets a piece of the action including the females. We get some great comedy from Roman and Han which i wouldn't mind seeing in their own film.

There are a few down sides to the film which take you out of the realm of the possible to the how the fuck can you do that. So some of the issues i have is the first car chase where the rock jumps from a car above on to car below whilst they are going round a corner speed. Then later in the film we have Letty jumping from a tank and Dom jumping from his car to catch her and save her. That Jump is bull shit i didn't know people could fly in this film? I feel like we got cheated out of Letty and her death by giving her amnesia just to fill the plot whole. Once the  other crew found out she use to be with Dom surely they should have just killed her to make sure she can't complicate things. My last big issue is Dom Head butts a guy a bit bigger then The Rock and manages to move him. ER i don't think so he is built ike a fucking tank so no i don't think he would flinch. Why didn't the tank just shoot Dom and be rid of them that would have solved his issue.

Vin Diesels headbutt can move this man!!! BOLLOCKS

As for the final scene just like everyone else who has seen the film i would like to know where this amazingly long run way is.

Overall the film is great fun with plenty of laughs driving and fighting as long as you don't mind switching off and filling in the plot holes your self.

thanks for reading this

The Worlds End with spoilers

The worlds End

Synopsis

5 friends reunite to finish a pub crawl which they never finished 20 years ago unaware that they are earth's hope to stop a alien invasion.

My opinion
So where to begin the film is a classic invasion of the body snatchers but with lots of alcohol, I felt the film started very slow and didn't really grip me. You really don't want to like Pegg's character at all as he feels like a cocky dickhead and his journey through the film doesn't help you like or root for him. The way he plays the character is rubbish i feel like he doesn't pull it off and should sticky to his nerdy characters or wacky ones just not the arsehole type. However my other half thought he looked HOT!?

There is one person in the film that makes it just a bit bearable and that is Nick Frost the man is awesome and can pull off any type of character as he has done a nice selection of films. I felt Eddie Marsan was under used in this film he has amazing acting skills and he probably shouldn't have been in the film as he wasn't used to his full potential. I haven't seen many Paddy Considine but i did enjoy him in this enough to go and look for some of this films.

There is not much to like about this film its not as funny as the other two but does consist of a colourful range of language and as for a end to the trilogy it does not end on a good note, even Paul was better then this and i wasn't a huge fan of that.

The way the film ends was a nice touch as the title doesn't just refer to the last pub, but that nice touch does not bring it up any standards.

The Cornetto blood trilogy probably should have been called the Cornetto fence trilogy, for there was not any blood in this film more like blue ink, i did like the Cornetto reference in this film.

I will not be buying this on blu ray at all which is a shame as i am a fan and wont complete the trilogy on the bookcase. I recommend you avoid this film if you can i was hyped to see this film and i can say that Marketing for the film was great as they made it a film you wanted to watch and was excited to see this film.

Death race trilogy

Death Race

Synopsis
In 2012, amid economic chaos and high unemployment, Americans watch by the millions as criminals with life sentences race armoured cars on Terminal Island. Two-thirds of the combatants die but the winner may earn his freedom. On the day he loses his job, steelworker Jensen Ames is arrested for his wife's murder. Sent to Terminal Island, he's offered an out by the steely and manipulative Warden Hennessey - race as the popular mask-wearing (but now dead) champion, Frankenstein, or rot in prison. Jensen makes the bargain. As the three-stage race approaches, he realizes that the whole thing may be a set up - can an anonymous man behind a mask get revenge and win his release?

Death Race is a great idea, good way to control prisons and provide entertainment at the same time its a show that if was real i could get behind and watch.

So as for the film its enjoyable fun carnage but apart from that i wouldn't expect great acting performances or stand out moments. The races are fun and definitely a thrill ride not knowing who is going to die next and more importantly how will they die bad driving or onslaught from a Gatling gun or rockets.

As for the ending its pretty straight forward you saw it coming just a case of how it was done.

So Jason Statham probably got the job for the driving and fighting for being in the Transporters films as its what he does best and well known for its in his comfort zone.
Always a pleasure to watch Ian Mcshane on screen its the kind of film i would expect to see him in not too high profile.

Overall i would recommend this for a casual watch and adrenaline junkies.

Death Races 2

Synopsis
Explores the origins of the first "Frankenstein" car driver, Carl "Luke" Lucas, who died in a race at the beginning of the first film.

Its a basic Origins story with the first driver to become 'Frankenstein' and how death race came to be the Phenomenon that it was. It starts off weird with before there was racing there was death matches with the same principle that after three minutes weapon pads are active and then the real fun begins.

The film itself does not entertain as well as the first one but its still an easy watch with fighting and watching the cars and the races come alive from the idea of a fighting arena.

The star of this film now is Luke Goss who does a pretty standard job no real breakout performance and some of the other actors who you would expect to find in B type movies.

Sean Bean, Ving Rhames who both i do love to watch and feel right at home in these types of films. And least i forget Danny Trejo who is always a bad ass he feels the role which in the first film will go to Ian Mcshane i cant really get behind Trejo as a mechanic though.

Easy watch definitely watch if you have seen the first film.

Death Race: Inferno

Synopsis
Convicted cop-killer Carl Lucas, aka Frankenstein, is a superstar driver in the brutal prison yard demolition derby known as Death Race. Only one victory away from winning freedom for himself and his pit crew.

This is a cash in this film didn't have to be made at all.
SO pretty much the same cast that left us from number 2, the company who runs death race is taken over by a English billionaire who wants to franchise it.
Buying up prisons and hoping to have tracks built within a year across the globe.

To see if they can do it they set up an area in South Africa where they can race but there is no track but a set course in a dessert which runs through towns and dunes. Of course the first race comes and someone has to make a run and show the audience that they cant't because they are all tagged with a tracker put into them.
The actions scenes in this are less then the first two films and quite frankly boring with a lot of slow mo put in.

Somewhere in the film is a plot for the team to get free they pull it off in the end and set up the rich guy. Its a bland film with no positives or even great acting .

so highly recommend you don't watch this and stick the first 1 for a good film or both if you want average.

Book review : Waylander

Okay this book has been out longer then i have been alive!
Published back in August 1986

It a typical fantasy book from David Gemmell with in depth characters and complicated histories.
Most fantasy fans with probably have read this as its been out for so long.

Waylander is a man who has done wrong all his life  sword for hire but this is his story for redemption, he saves a priest who has an impact on this life from this day forward. He ets tasked to get some armour to deliver to a general of an army to help raise moral and bring triumph.
On his journey he meets old friends and new friends who all tie in nicely to help him or go separate ways but have impact on the story.

Its a fast read once you get going there is no stopping, with that said just don't rush to end it because i feel that Gemmell rushed the ending and i didnt really feel it. i men we take days to get to the mountains and then he sums up the last few days in one chapter is a little lazy. But still a good read never the less.

Hopefully i will do more book reviews in future.
